Position open for Associate for Young Adults

Church of St. Clement in El Paso, Texas

We are a vibrant, historic, downtown, multi-generational Anglican congregation. We emphasize biblical preaching, prayer ministry, serving our community, and missions. We are a founding parish of the Anglican Diocese of the Southwest (ACNA). In 2020 we will be celebrating our 150th Anniversary and will be hosting both the Executive Committee of the ACNA and the Matthew 25 Conference.

El Paso is a bi-cultural city of 800,000, on the border with Juarez, Mexico, and New Mexico, and one of the safest cities in the United States. We are a gem in the middle of the desert.

When asked why people like it here, the typical answers are: a family-friendly community, weather (year-round outdoor activities), Southwest culture, and the opportunity to do mission outreach across the border.

We are home to the University of Texas-El Paso, Fort Bliss, and the El Paso International Airport. Check out www.visitelpaso.com.

We invite you to prayerfully consider bringing your family to El Paso and joining our team as an Associate primarily responsible for growing and providing pastoral care to the Young-ish Adults of St. Clement’s. The Young-ish Adults are comprised of singles and young families ranging from post-college through 40s.

Working with the rector, the Rev. William Cobb, and other clergy on staff, the Associate for Young Adults is also responsible for:

  • Sharing in preaching and celebrating the Holy Eucharist at the two Sunday morning services (traditional and contemporary), a Saturday evening service and a Wednesday morning chapel service for St. Clement’s Parish School, along with other clergy.
  • Overseeing the spiritual guidance and health of the leaders of our LifeGroups (community groups) that meet bi-weekly in Central El Paso, Westside, and Upper Valley. This includes, but not limited to: curriculum selection, discipleship, and regular gatherings of all of the leaders. The Associate “floats” between the three groups to encourage each group and be present in the Young-ish adults’ lives. The Associate plans quarterly mission opportunities for the groups to serve together.
  • Leading and maintaining a regular Men’s Bible Study for young men.
  • One-on-one meetings for coffee or lunch with young adults for connecting, discipleship, pastoral care.
  • Planning and executing quarterly Young-ish Adult events throughout the year: A Fall Festival, a Summer Kick-off, a Seder Supper and/or Easter Egg Hunt, and a Christmas party.
  • Helping the League Director promote Upward Soccer to young families each fall, and providing spiritual oversight to the coaches.
  • Communicating and coordinating with leaders of other ministries: Children’s, Youth, Upward Soccer, Ciudad Nueva Community Outreach, Holy Chow (parish potlucks), Border Fellows, etc.
